In the Shadow of a Hurricane: Cartography launches

Above is the poster for my South Africa book launch of Cartography of Revolutionary Anarchism, the English edition of the French-language original, Cartographie de l’anarchisme révolutionnaire (Lux Éditeur, Montreal, Canada, 2012), at which the brilliant soul band The Means performed songs including the moving In the Shadow of a Hurricane after which my talk that night was named. The book is a summary history of the global anarchist and syndicalist movements, it is part of a series including writers such as Errico Malatesta, Élisée Reclus, Voltairine de Cleyre, Noam Chomsky, Howard Zinn, Normand Baillargeon, John Holloway, and David Graeber.

It has since been revised, expanded and updated with new footnotes and new materials on the Manchurian Revolution and the Uruguayan resistance to neo-fascism in particular, for its Arabic, Farsi and Spanish translations as رسم الخرائط من الأناركية الثورية , نقشه برداری از آنارشیسم انقلاب, and Cartografía del Anarquismo Revolucionario respectively. I also launched the book in Wellington in Aotearoa / New Zealand, as well as in Melbourne and Sydney in Australia and at Ljubljana in Slovenia in 2014 (see poster below). The hugely expanded version of Cartographie, which has taken 17 years working in 10 languages (with another two, Danish and Croatian, about to be added) will be ready to send to my publishers next year, and now bears the title of that Means' song, In the Shadow of a Hurricane.
